Saving Sergeant Ryan

My name is Maureen McGrath, I am a local, small business owner on a mission: SAVING SGT. RYAN! Sergeant Ryan Skochin, Marine Corps, MP, was an active duty Combat Veteran of the Iraq War, 2001-2005. He has been awarded a bed at NHC, a long term nursing facility in Murrells Inlet, SC. He has been housed in Illinois for the past three, long years. Now, it feels like he is home! Close to his parents, sister and his precious son, plus a network of people who care. He and his family need our help! We are calling on Our Village to step up!!

SSR is in its infancy. In fact, it was born last week when Ryan’s mother was telling me about her only son, and the struggles they have weathered these last 8 years since Ryan suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury following a motorcycle accident. What really got me was how many times she told me about the silver linings they kept finding. Silver linings, in all this? Ryan’s mom looked at me and said, “How are we going to come up with this money? How?” I said, “We’ll hatch a charity, we’ll raise the funds!” In the words of Mother Jones, “Pray for the dead and fight like hell for the living.” My colleagues and friends are spearheading this effort to bridge the gap for what Ryan’s VA Benefits, Social Security and Medicaid will not cover, a staggering $1000.00 per month.
